Nutrition is how food affects the health of the body. Food is essential as it provides many vital nutrients to your body which helps in staying healthy.

Food consists of macro nutrients including protein, carbohydrate and fat which play a specific role in maintaining your health and provide fuel to your body.

Food also supplies micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) that don’t provide calories to your body but serve a variety of critical functions to ensure the body operates optimally.

There are tons of benefits of a good nutrition. It not only helps in maintaining weight but also has benefits like:

  • Increases your ability to fight sickness

Types of Nutrients

 

There are two types of nutrients that are present in your food:

  1. Macro Nutrients
  2. Micro nutrients

 

Macro Nutrients

Macro nutrients are the foods that provides fuel to your body. They consists of :

Proteins

Carbohydrates

  • Carbohydrates are found in foods such as potatoes, beans, rice, fruits that provides energy to your body.
  • The main role of a carbohydrates is to provide energy and fuel your body. Energy allows your body to do daily activities such as walking, running, moving objects etc.

 

 

Fats

 

  • Fats are found in oils, nuts, seeds, coconuts, which provides structure to the cells.
  • Fats are also essential for absorbing fat-soluble vitamins.

 

 

 

 

Micro Nutrients

 

 

Food also supplies micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) that don’t provide calories to your body but serve a variety of critical functions to ensure the body operates optimally.

Vitamins and minerals are the food components that helps in overall health and play an important role in cell metabolism and neurological functions in your body.

Vitamins aid in energy production, wound healing, immunity, and eye and skin health.

Minerals helps in maintaining cardiovascular health and provide structure to the skeleton.
